Student learning outcomes are statements that specify what students will know and be able to demonstrate when they have completed or participated in a project. Outcomes are expresed as skills, knowledge and value. Learning outcomes are measured by different types of assessments.

Subject: Social Studies

Grade: 3rd

It is very important for students to understand social studies. Three measurable learning outcomes at the elementary level for third grade are as follows:

2.  The student will be able to identify the capital of each of the 50 states.

3.  The student will be able to identify the bodies of water that surround the United States.

The three test items that support the outcomes are as follows:

2.       Students will be presented with a blank map with the states printed on the map and they will have to write in the capital for each state.

3.       Students will be presented with a picture of the United States and the bodies of water that surround it, cut outs of the bodies of water that surround the United States would have to be placed in the correct position. This test will have a 2 minute time limit.
